Debian Trixie

Two years ago I wrote about the arrival of the new Debian version, Bookworm. Every two years or so, Debian issues a new version, and, well, it's that time of the year again, Debian 13 (Trixie) has just been released, and it's very much awesome.

So, what's in the Trixie's candy store?

You get almost newest versions of different desktop environments: Gnome 48, MATE 1.26.2, Xfce 4.20.1, KDE Plasma 6 and Cinnamon 6.4.10. I use Xfce (before that Cinnamon), and Xfce is marvelously simple, fairly light, and stable. Other application versions are: LibreOffice 25, Linux kernel 6.12.38 (LTS), systemd 257.7, Vim 9.1, Emacs 30.1, etc.

Trixie contains over 69,830 packages, so there is a good chance to find your favorite Linux application on Debian's repositories.

The next version of Debian (Forky) will most likely arrive in two years, but Trixie will be supported for the next 5 years. If you want to try Debian without installing it on your computer, you can download one of the Live images (iso). I would recommend Cinnamon or KDE Plasma if you want an experience similar to Windows or Gnome (which is quite similar to MacOS, I'd say).

This is how my Debian 13 looks with Xfce as the desktop environment. For me, this is the best Linux distribution, and the best operating system.
