Nuri Bilge Ceylan is known as Turkish Tarkovsky, mainly because of his visual style. In his very good work Uzak (Distant, 2002) he refers at least twice to the Russian master director.
In one scene we can see a sequence from Stalker (1979) and in an other a sequence from The Mirror (1975). Both are beautiful films, and I do recommend Uzak, as well. The tension and the main characters’ struggle to cope with life’s difficulties are masterfully depicted by Ceylan.
“Stalker” on TV (Uzak, 2002).
“The Mirror” on TV (Uzak, 2002).
