Yet another year is over, so here's the status on the read books and watched films in 2024.
Films
I've watched 104 films in 2024, and the list can be accessed on my Letterboxd page. I watched 47 horrors, 30 dramas, 7 sci-fi, 9 thrillers, and 7 comedies.
The best films I watched (and rewatched, in some cases) in 2024 are:
- The Lives of Others. A masterpiece I wrote about before, and even made a podcast episode.
- Perfect Days. I really loved this little piece about loneliness and meaning of life. I wrote about it in Bosnian.
- Land. Another little gem about loneliness and lonesomeness. A great movie.
- Quo Vadis, Aida? A difficult but important story told about Srebrenica Genocide during the Serbian aggression on Bosnia in the 1990s.
- Nomadland.
- Sorry We Missed You. Another social realistic gem by Ken Loach.
- The Taste of Things. Juliette Binoche in a film about food. Nice.
- Anatomy of a Fall.
- Interstellar. I have some issues with this movie, but it is epic, and has Hans Zimmer's soundtrack.
- The Changeling.
- Blue Jasmine. An unorthodox film by Woody Allen. Very good.
- The Perfect Circle. Another film about the war in Bosnia.
- One Life.
- Past Lives.
- Longlegs. A weird but good horror film with even weirder Nicolas Cage.
Books
Now, books. I read 26 books this year (here's the list), and my favorite ones are:
- Surrounded by Idiots - Thomas Isakson. A captivating book that offers an interesting exploration of human behavior and communication styles.
- The Age of Extremes - Eric Hobsbawm. A historical grand work.
- The Mythmaker: Paul and the Invention of Christianity - Hyam Maccoby. On origins of the Christianity and the apostle Paul.
- I slon iščeznu i druge priče - H. Murakami. Short stories.
Music
I listened mostly to Adagio, Opeth, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Alice in Chains, The Anchoret, and Anciients. I listened the most to Adagio's album Life from 2017. An awesome album with a lot of great songs. The favorite song is probably Secluded Within Myself.
My favorite new album is Opeth's The Last Will and Testament.
